Before an engagement begins, the parties agree on the work to be performed and the responsibilities that come with it.
How we work
Clarify the problem, intended users, available information, and decisions the research should support.
Develop the scope, study approach, staffing plan, budget, deliverables, and contracting arrangements.
Establish the required ethics determinations, institutional permissions, training, data agreements, and study procedures.
Carry out the agreed work after required reviews and permissions, with documented methods and quality checks.
Review findings in context, communicate limitations, and deliver reports or other agreed outputs.
Research ethics & federal readiness
MindShift aims to develop research collaborations and pursue appropriate funding opportunities. Institutional registrations, partner agreements, and study-specific review requirements are confirmed during project planning.
An Institutional Review Board reviews human-subject research protocols when required. Review arrangements can involve a qualified external or collaborating institution’s IRB, with responsibilities documented as applicable.
Research classification and required determinations are resolved through the appropriate institutional process before applicable participant activities begin.
Human research protection resources ↗An institution engaged in nonexempt human-subject research supported or conducted by HHS generally needs an OHRP-approved Federalwide Assurance (FWA). This institutional commitment is distinct from a study’s IRB approval.
OHRP assurance & registration guidance ↗NIH funding is a separate application process. Organizational preparation includes SAM.gov/UEI, Grants.gov, and eRA Commons registrations. Eligibility depends on the specific funding opportunity, including whether for-profit applicants are eligible.
NIH organization registration guide ↗Operating an IRB is a separate institutional undertaking from conducting studies or obtaining an FWA. IRB registration is handled through OHRP and does not itself constitute approval of a study or certification of an IRB’s competence. A research organization can explore an external reviewing IRB rather than establishing its own board.
